Today is World Food Day!
Here at Bellasize we’re already daydreaming about all of the delicious food that we’ll be consuming over the Christmas period.
Christmas is the time for everyone coming together and enjoying the season, but over the years it has also become a time of waste.
In Britain we spend around £4.2 billion on food and drink at Christmas. But what’s worth thinking about is that £1 billion of that is predicted to be thrown away! This also equates to 30% more waste than the rest of the year….That’s a lot of turkeys.
Christmas dinner is a big job and we know that getting portion sizes right is hard work. Most people will admit to cooking too much food as they’re worried it won’t be enough and then end up being stuck with leftovers. However, just because it’s leftover doesn’t mean it has to go to waste. We’ve been looking for ways to use up our Christmas leftovers and the ideas have our mouths watering! For leftover veg we love the idea of bubble and squeak or homemade veggie burgers. But our favourite has to be this Christmas pizza – https://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/recipe/christmas-pizza
Christmas is all about indulgence and being a little bit naughty when it comes to what we eat, but we also need to be a little more mindful about how much we are wasting, not only for our pockets but for the environment too. This is another reason for loving real Christmas trees, there carbon footprint is a lot lower than a plastic tree.
